The Italian Republic, referred to as Italy, with its capital Rome, is located in southern Europe, including the Apennine Peninsula and the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. It borders France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia to the north, and is bordered by the Adriatic Sea, the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, which are the subordinate seas of the Mediterranean Sea, to the east, south and west respectively.

Italy is a developed industrial country and the fourth largest economy in Europe and the eighth largest in the world. It is known as the "Kingdom of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises" and is rich in tourism resources and historical and cultural heritages.
